The Voices — A very dark type of comedy — 7*/10

  • Story: Weird, with disgust as a by product. Riveting if you like the type. You keep wondering what's going to happen next. You mostly do know, but keep hoping you're wrong. Lots of good scenario choices that are outside what we're usually served.
  • Setting: Simple. Backwater America.
  • Style: Dark, and so offbeat that the humor gets lost in the translation. Multiple bloody scenes. Even so, you can't really call this flick gory. There's enough blood to set the tone, but not enough to be over the top.
  • Ending: Unusual and pretty good.
  • Dialogs: Excellent. That's mostly where you'll find the laughs.
  • Characters: Well thought out and fleshed out, if a bit simple. The secret is in how they are portrayed by the actors.
  • Acting: Solid. Perfect as far as the main role is concerned.
  • Known actors: Ryan Reynolds (really showed his best here), Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick.
  • Visuals: Excellent, lots of details.
  • Music: Purposefully at odd with what's happening, a reflection of his mental condition.
  • Synopsis & informationhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1567437/
  • Entertainment value: Depends if you like that kind of tale.
  • Who is it for? Those who like their humor dark and like truly crazy characters, as well as Reynolds fans if they don't mind a departure from his usual roles.
