Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom — Nice sequel that's getting too old — 6*/10

  • Overall: On almost all levels, Steven Spielberg and George Lucas just did not do as good a job as they did on the original (read my review here). However, you do get the same nice feeling of adventure, which is what the audience originally wanted.
  • Who is it for? Indiana Jones fans.
  • Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087469/
  • Known actors: Harrison Ford.
  • Setting: Pre-World War II, mostly in India.
  • Style: Adventurous swashbuckling.
  • Pacing: Quick.
  • Intro: Same get right to it feeling as the original.
  • Story: This, no traveling around the world, more silliness, more fantasy, more side character interest, but still lots of action and high adventure.
  • Ending: Well done.
  • Epilogue: One part good, one part bad.
  • Dialogs: Funny and interesting.
  • Characters: The female lead is weaker. The sidekick is lively if caricatural. The bad guys are pathetically underdeveloped.
  • Acting: Nice.
  • Visuals: Nice.
  • Special Effects: They are just too old. Done with less care than the original or maybe they just went beyond what they could do.
  • Score: Same catchy and adventurous work by the great John Williams.

Ghostbusters — An incredible funny sci-fi classic — 8*/10

  • Overall: If you don't mind some dated special effect, this is a great funny flick full great ideas.
  • Who is it for? Those who want to see the original or any 1980s sentimental.
  • Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087332/
  • Known actors: Sigourney Weaver, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Rick Moranis.
  • Setting: Amazing, original and detailed ideas in good old 1980s New York City.
  • Style: Sci-fi fantasy comic adventure flick. No crazy 1980s hairdo or clothes.
  • Pacing: Solid. Great build up and setup.
  • Intro: Incredible mood setter and right to the point. You immediately get what the rest of the movie will be like.
  • Story: Events slowly unfolds, full of nice details. You get to know each of the characters, understand the logic and setup the final confrontation which is epic.
  • Dialogs: Funny, full of little jewels.
  • Characters: Great with nice depths and each with its own idiosyncrasy. Full of details. None of the usual archetypes, it actually defined new ones that can be found in many of the movies that followed.
  • Acting: Great in a comedic.
  • Special Effects: Now dating a bit, but not too bad. They didn't try to go beyond what they could do some most of them are respectable. Not all of them, however.
  • Camera Work:
  • Music: Funny, really catchy.
  • Score: Awesome.

The Terminator — The birth of many things — 9*/10

The Terminator is the father of cyberpunk and is one of the very first movie directed by James Cameron where he really started to build his name. He showed his talent with this small budget independent production. The star rating of this film is mainly due to the fact that its a landmark in the industry.

The good. Very imaginative background and setting. Well paced scenario. Interesting characters. Captivating story. Solid suspense. Nice action.

The actors. The machine is a good role for Arnold Schwarzenegger at the beginning of his career since it doesn't require much pronunciation. I've always loved Michael Biehn and even if he's not at his best, he did great with what he was given. Linda Hamilton hadn't yet bloomed and her limitations are showing a little bit, yet she gave us a great portrayal.

The bad. A few overly simple dialogs. The stop motion animation is good, but nowadays, it's an old technology. The mechanical puppet doesn't have human fluidity it should have. The latex stand-in is pitiful by today's standard.

The ugly. Nothing.

The result. Everyone should see it because it's a landmark, especially sci-fi fans.
