- Overall: This third and final installment is great and it helps validate the existence of the second chapter (read my review here) which felt too light, but still cannot best the first one (read my review here) which had an incredible mood and is a must see for everyone.
- Who is it for? Those who wants to know how it all ends. A must for the fans of the series.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1343097/
- Known actors: Noomi Rapace.
- Style: Intrigue, criminal investigation, court case.
- Pacing: Slow and measured.
- Story: Great detective work and nice deep background. Excellent setup. Loved it all.
- Ending: Immensely satisfying, almost orgasmic. Finally.
- Epilogue: Necessary, if a bit weak or anticlimactic.
- Dialogs: Solid. Again, though, it's difficult to say with the subtitles.
- Characters: Well developed. The bad guys finally overcome the simplicity of the second chapter.
- Acting: Great.
- Visuals: More harmonious than the second chapter, but not as much as captivating as the original.
- Afterthoughts: Absolutely loved it, even on subsequent viewing.
I've decided to simply go for a score without any review. Maybe I'll start again doing full reviews someday.

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest — Great ending to this series — 8*/10
jeudi 10 novembre 2016
The Girl Who Played with Fire — A much more personal tale — 8*/10
- Overall: Another great intrigue on a more personal level. Not as polished as the original (read my review here), but still amazing entertainment.
- Who is it for? A must for those who liked the first chapter. The others should start there, not here.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1216487/
- Known actors: Noomi Rapace.
- Setting: A weird mix where you can't get hang on things, probably a good reflection of average Sweden. Lacks the polished and more holistic design of the first chapter.
- Style: Police intrigue.
- Pacing: A bit hectic, lacking the genius of the original.
- Story: The intrigue is fascinating, riveting, it is all you can ask of one. However, the rest is not as powerful as its predecessor.
- Ending: Painful and masterful.
- Dialogs: Interesting and well made, although it's always difficult to evaluate with subtitles.
- Characters: The bad guys are too simple.
- Acting: Great.
- Afterthoughts: I was riveted the first time I saw it, but even now it is still great.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo — An intrigue of an impressive perfection — 10*/10
- Overall: A brain warper. It will transport you in its world with disarming ease.
- Who is it for? An absolute must for anyone who isn't too emotionally sensitive.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132620/
- Known actors: Noomi Rapace.
- Setting: Sweden.
- Style: Intrigue and investigation with strong psychological drama.
- Pacing: Slow, a perfect stew, right until its culmination.
- Intro: The setup is quick, everything is put into place right away.
- Story: Full of details and very psychological. The perfection of this film is in the way the intrigue develops. Each discovery is natural, realistic and very organic. It doesn't feel forced and each time it draws you in more until you're unable to move away, transfixed by the easy flow of events. The mood is absolutely entrancing. Perfect.
- Ending: Surprising, strong. Perfect.
- Epilogue: I normally hate epilogues, this one is so well done that it absolutely needs to be there.
- Dialogs: Great, although, with subtitles, it can be difficult to judge.
- Characters: Awe inspiring. Incredible depth, extremely well detailed and full of life, or the lack of it.
- Acting: Powerful. Hypnotic. Perfect.
- Visuals: Strong, slick, simple, perfect.
- Special Effects:
- Camera Work:
- Afterthoughts: Even knowing the intrigue, it's still amazing to watch. It's that good. Thoroughly entertained, especially on an intellectual level.
I recommend watching the second chapter too (read my review here).

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen — On a much larger scale — 7*/10
- Overall: It's on par with the first chapter (read my review here) quality-wise, but there's a lot more action.
- Who is it for? Those looking for an ass-kicking action sci-fi and the fans of the series.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1055369/
- Known actors: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, John Turturro, Julie White, Kevin Dunn, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson.
- Style: Action sci-fi.
- Pacing: Fast.
- Intro: I don't like the basis for the movie, but that just me.
- Story: Lots of action, much more than the first chapter. A bit more involved than before, but still simple. Much greater deployment.
- Ending: Action oriented.
- Epilogue: Short and forgettable.
- Dialogs: Very simple.
- Characters: Very simple. The female lead has a much smaller role even though she's onscreen a lot. It's really disappointing. The soldiers suffer the same fate. This is not a character movie, much less than the original and very few character interactions that are good, especially what passes for a romance.
- Acting: Okay, I guess.
- Visuals: Awesome.
- Special Effects: Perfect, or near enough.
- Camera Work: A true Michael Bay treatment.
- Score: Very engaging.
- Afterthoughts: Great entertainment, but you can't ask for much more.

Star Trek — The best ever made and one accessible to all — 10*/10
- Overall: The best production ever to come out of the franchise, and relatable enough that anyone can see it without even knowing what Star Trek is all about. Great way to get to know this world.
- Who is it for? All sci-fi fans, but also anyone interested in a solid character based action flick.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/
- Known actors: Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, Eric Bana and Bruce Greenwood.
- Cameos: Winona Ryder and Leonard Nimoy.
- Setting: Far future.
- Style: Character based action sci-fi.
- Pacing: It almost never stops, a real roller coaster, except for a select few moments that are all character moments.
- Intro: It's a boom, right away.
- Story: Full of action with incredible levels of details. Gripping.
- Ending: Just wow.
- Dialogs: Witty, hilarious at times, or serious, never letting us down.
- Characters: Well developed, a certain departure from the originals, but realistically so.
- Acting: Excellent.
- Visuals: Mind blowing, all the time. Awe inspiring.
- Special Effects: Perfect.
- Afterthoughts: The first time, I was blown away. The second time, I couldn't believe how good I still thought it was. I was as riveted as the first time. I highly recommend it

Mr. Nobody — Be ready for a quiet surreal sci-fi ride — 8*/10
- Overall: This is the kind of movie that feels very exploratory.
- Who is it for? Only a few, those who like sci-fi and films that mess with time in a surreal way.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0485947/
- Known actors: Jared Leto and Rhys Ifans.
- Style: Almost surreal sci-fi.
- Story: It's about choices, building time and deconstructing it. A very different sci-fi with romance, sadness, hopes and illusions. You get lost, but you explore so many possibilities.
- Ending: Could have been stronger. Kinda weak compared to the rest.
- Characters: You get an excellent feel for those characters that do not fit into your standard stereotypes.
- Acting: Excellent.
- Visuals: Strong.
- Special Effects: Solid, if not perfect.
- Camera Work: Excellent. Makes the story telling work.
- Afterthoughts: I thought it was weird, my kind of weird and few others. I loved it because it was so bold in what it tried to convey. My mind felt at ease with the script going in every direction, because it works the same way. I just wished for a different ending.

Angels & Demons — The Da Vinci Code was just better — 7*/10
- Story: Following in the footsteps of The Da Vinci Code (read my review here) Ron Howard tried to recreate the same magic combination. Unfortunately, this time, while the intrigue isn't too bad, it isn't as strong as the previous chapter while the background story is markedly less interesting. So, to compensate, he cranked up the suspense and the action resulting in an unfortunate creation with a number of logical flaws.
- Setting: Rich Vatican and Roman history.
- Pacing: Raggedly fast.
- Ending: Predictable.
- Characters: Uninteresting.
- Acting: Good.
- Known actors: Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor.
- Special Effects: Not bad, but showing flaws.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808151/
- Entertainment value: Nice.
- Who is it for? Those who require more of The Da Vinci Code.

Love Happens — Basic but interesting romantic comedy — 6*/10
- Story: Basic but interesting romantic comedy. Nothing new, just different characters and situations. Funny with a few sentimental moments.
- Ending: Predictable. The very last scene is hilarious though and a very nice addition. It helps with the cookie cutter ending.
- Characters: Simple.
- Acting: Adequate.
- Known actors: Jennifer Aniston, Aaron Eckhart, Judy Greer, Dan Fogler, John Carroll Lynch and Martin Sheen.
- Visuals: Nice, but standard.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0899106/
- Entertainment value: Nice.
- Who is it for? Those looking for a basic romantic comedy and any Aniston or Eckhart fans.

The Answer Man — Somewhat different, easy, funny with some light romance — 7*/10
- Story: Funny, easy to follow, with some lightly touching moments and a bit of romance. Most of the time, it doesn't take the path most followed even if it does stay within the mold.
- Ending: Predictable, but well rendered.
- Dialogs: Very sincere.
- Characters: Nicely fledged, not too simple and interesting.
- Acting: Solid.
- Known actors: Jeff Daniels, Lauren Graham, Olivia Thirlby and Kat Dennings.
- Visuals: Clean and nice.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1187041/
- Entertainment value: Good.
- Who is it for? Those looking for a comedy that has some real feelings and a touch of romance.
An alternate title for the movie seems to be "Arlen Faber".

Sherlock Holmes — Classic characters modernized with flair — 10*/10
- Story: Captivating, full of action, laughs, wit, logic, clues, and a grand investigation. Great attention to details.
- Setting: A gritty, very realistic 19th century London.
- Style: Grandiose and funny.
- Pacing: Excellent. All the action scenes expertly separated by a few quiet moments that either heighten the mystery or advanced the story.
- Ending: Quite good and well built, if not really surprising.
- Dialogs: Superb, lots of wit.
- Characters: A modern and expanded version of the originals.
- Acting: Perfect, except for the rendition of the French language which was atrocious.
- Known actors: Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Eddie Marsan and Robert Maillet.
- Visuals: Astounding.
- Special Effects: Great.
- Costumes: Perfect.
- Score: Excellent.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0988045/
- Entertainment value: Extremely high.
- Who is it for? Everyone looking for action or a criminal intrigue and any fans of Downey, Law or McAdams.
A masterpiece of entertainment by Guy Ritchie.

The Ugly Truth — Funny witty and somewhat refreshing romantic comedy — 7*/10
- Story: Very funny and refreshing a number of front. However, he's still vomiting very narrow ideas vaguely describing a very limited gray view of the world which fails to encompass the true rainbow variety of life. That being said, you can't help but cheer them both on and be riveted.
- Style: Typical romantic comedy setup.
- Ending: Her last line is priceless which helps deal with the rest.
- Dialogs: Funny and witty.
- Characters: Interesting if simple and archetypal. Still, the distribution is unusual.
- Acting: Good.
- Known actors: Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler, Bree Turner, Cheryl Hines and John Michael Higgins.
- Visuals: Nice.
- Music: Solid choices.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1142988/
- Entertainment value: Very good.
- Who is it for? Those looking for a romantic comedy that's refreshing, but not too much.

The Proposal — Sweet and funny romantic comedy with a few interesting nuggets — 7*/10
- Story: It's a basic romantic comedy and everything is included. A bit of silliness, even wackiness, embarrassing situations, misunderstandings, in-laws, an inspector and a dog. Nothing really novel, except for the initial situation which is definitively the second biggest selling point of this flick. That being said, the laughs are plenty and easy, the story light and easy.
- Setting: Too rich for middle class, the usual American dream, some down to earth stuff to make it more accessible.
- Ending: Very sugary, but nice and well acted.
- Dialogs: Simple and funny.
- Characters: Simple, but interesting.
- Acting: Solid for the most part, especially the main parts which is the biggest selling point of this flick.
- Known actors: Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, Betty White and Malin Akerman.
- Synopsis & information:
- Entertainment value: Good.
- Who is it for? Those looking for something romantic, funny and light, but don't require novelty.

Avatar — An astounding sci-fi masterpiece — 10*/10
- Scenario: James Cameron did it again. A smash hit, an almost perfect movie. The story is incredible, gripping, amazingly detailed and crafted with obvious genius. No aspect of this film is short of great.
- Known actors: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi and Joel David Moore.
- Visual & sound: Just spectacular. A perfection that will be difficult to match. Even the 3D was perfectly done, and I usually think it's just a gimmick, unnecessary.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0499549/
- Who is it for? Everyone. A must see unless you truly and deeply hate sci-fi.
I just watched it again for the second time and I can't believe it took me six years to do so. However, it might have been a good choice because I was able to see it on a very large TV with hi definition. The only way to pay tribute to this work of visual art. The only thing I could have wished for would have been a matching sound system. All the same, I'm in heaven right now.

The Invention of Lying — A nice little romantic comedy in a parallel world — 7*/10
- Scenario: It's funny and surprising as well as a nice dive into a novel concept. It's good entertainment on a light subject that gets you thinking about all those little moral things we do every day.
- Known actors: Ricky Gervais, Jennifer Garner, Jonah Hill, Louis C.K., Jeffrey Tambor, Rob Lowe, Tina Fey and John Hodgman.
- Visual & sound: Nice.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/
- Who is it for? Those looking for a nice little romantic comedy that's a bit different.

Confessions of a Shopaholic — Nice light romantic comedy — 6*/10
- Scenario: Simple, follows the standard model for a romantic comedy, including some very embarrassing moments. As its peers, what really makes the flick are the jokes and details. So, comparatively speaking this one is above average and provides some nice light entertainment. What's notable about this film is that it doesn't have any big flaws and doesn't go overboard.
- Dialogs: Funny.
- Characters: Very simple.
- Actors: Isla Fisher (who is the real reason why this movie is any good), Krysten Ritter, Joan Cusack, John Goodman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Leslie Bibb, Julie Hagerty, John Lithgow and Fred Armisen.
- Photography: Nice.
- Sound: Nice music and score.
- Special effects: None.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1093908/
- Who is it for? Those looking for some light entertainment.

Watchmen — An amazing twist on the super hero theme — 10*/10
- Scenario: Totally different from your average super hero movie. Nice intrigue, great action, captivating from one end to the other, lots of details and a solid background story as well as a surprising alternate reality.
- Dialogs: Very interesting, at times complexe, with a nice ring of realism to them.
- Characters: Deep and extremely well built.
- Actors: Excellent work on the part of everyone. Cast members include Malin Akerman, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Goode and Carla Gugino.
- Photography: Solid.
- Sound: Amazingly good music and score.
- Special effects: Superb. You have to seek out imperfections to see them.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0409459/
- Who is it for? Anyone. Warning: this is a gritty sarcastic dark view of the world.

District 9 — An incredible sci-fi with a very novel and surprising setting — 10*/10
- Scenario: When you don't know what to expect this flick is very disorienting at first, because everything is new and barely ressembles anything you've seen before. It's done as a faux documentary that slowly mixes in more and more "live" footage. It is gripping, emotionally heavily loaded, even though the story starts a little bit pathetically, it is gritty, dirty, it has an incredible background setting, as well as a ton of action, and it is full of details. The tension builds up throughout the movie and never lets you go as you learn slowly what this is all about.
- Dialogs: Very realistic. The South African accent is sometimes difficult to understand, but it adds to the charged atmosphere.
- Characters: Even if you don't get to know them all, they all leave you with a nice deep impression including the shallower roles. The main character is amazingly well built psychologically.
- Actors: Great work on the part of everybody.
- Photography: The camera work and effects get you right in with the characters. The sets, decors and costumes are perfect.
- Sound: The music and score are strong and moving.
- Special effects: Perfection. They feel absolutely real. If "prawn" type aliens and technology landed on Earth, they would look and feel exactly like that.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608/
- Who is it for? Anyone who doesn't mind violence or sci-fi. It's a must.
This is director Neill Blomkamp's first feature length movie and it's a masterpiece.

Terminator Salvation — Forgetting the third instalment with something really decent — 7*/10
Terminator Salvation, the 4th Terminator, is not the best of the series, but after the dismally horrid third part, it's a balm to a fan of the first two. I'd even say that it's pretty good. It has all the action and special effects you can ask for, plus the story is interesting, the dialogs are nicely done and the acting is solid. My gripe is with the almost inexistent defence of Skynet central, and the lousy last scene.
For great entertainment.

Zombieland - A world of violence, laughter and good entertainment - 8*/10
Zombieland is one of the best well made comedic zombie movie out there. Great setting and intro, with a smooth scenario, interesting story and good acting.
