I've decided to simply go for a score without any review. Maybe I'll start again doing full reviews someday.

Spider-Man: Homecoming — A solid reboot of the franchise — 8*/10
The whole Happy-Stark-Parker thing is a bit annoying. The story is pretty involved with lots of stuff happening, but low-key for a superhero flick, at least we didn't go through the origin once more. Good action and special effects if, again, low-key. Overall, nice feeling to it and solid entertainment, one of the good Spider-Man. Watch out for those scenes during the end credits and after.
At first, I wasn't happy about the choice of actor for Spidey when I found out in the Avengers, but now I think he's great, perfect even. The perfect balance of humble, witty and courageous. Loved the choice of aunt May. Nice change there.
One very bad thing, though: no spider sense at all!
Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Robert Downey Jr.,

Wonder Woman — An inspiring super hero action flick for all — 8*/10
Amazing visuals, action and special effects. The story is very interesting even if it's not very complex. The part about rewriting Greek mythology is annoying, the bad guy is weak at best and they could have given her one of the more dressed-up version of her costume, but the rest, including the acting, is great.
Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Robin Wright and Connie Nielsen.

Logan — Very disappointed because it had so much potential — 6*/10
The acting is good as far as Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart are concerned, since there were given solid parts. The other characters are much weaker and it's difficult to give a respectable performance with low grade roles.
It's too bad, because there are a few concept ideas that were pretty interesting. Unfortunately, there was no substance behind it all. Just easy stuff, except for a few things that did show a little bit of guts.

The LEGO Batman Movie — A fantastic parody animation — 7*/10
Funny and full of past Batman movie references that will greatly please fans. The story is a bit simple, but it's good entertainment.
Will Arnett, Michael Cera, Rosario Dawson, Ralph Fiennes, Zach Galifianakis, Conan O'Brien, Zoë Kravitz, Kate Micucci, Eddie Izzard, Seth Green, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Hector Elizondo and Mariah Carey.

The Dark Knight — The best Batman movie ever made to date — 9*/10
- Overall: For its grit and realism, it is definitely great work by Christopher Nolan. There are some genius things and a few weaker things. It's all about the Joker.
- Who is it for? Those looking for a psychotic realistic version of Gotham.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0468569/
- Known actors: Christian Bale, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman.
- Setting: DC Comics universe, in a realistic version.
- Style: Dark action superhero.
- Story: Very detailed and captivating with many successive plots. There are a few good risks that were taken, many action scenes, solid Joker moments. Realistic. Dark.
- Ending: Amazingly good, thanks to the Joker.
- Epilogue: It's not a waste of time and it's short.
- Dialogs: The Joker's are great, the rest, not so much.
- Characters: Here, the Joker is the top dog. The rest lack depth and usually fall into some form of stereotypes or other, especially the bad guys. Batman isn't so bad, but why do they have to make his voice so gravely all the time?
- Acting: My hat goes to the Joker, once again. A royal performance, the best since Nicholson (read my review here), maybe even better. Others are pretty solid too, no complaints here.
- Visuals: Realistic.
- Special Effects: Great.
- Afterthoughts: I saw it multiple times and still see the jewel, although personally, I don't like the stark realistic look and some of the stereotypes.

Iron Man 2 — A very worthy sequel to a solid superhero film — 8*/10
- Overall: It's rare you see a second chapter as good as the first one (read my review here). Another touchdown by director-actor Jon Favreau.
- Who is it for? Anyone who even remotely likes superhero flick. It's great sci-fi too.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1228705/
- Known actors: Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr., Mickey Rourke, Jon Favreau, Don Cheadle, Sam Rockwell, Samuel L. Jackson and Paul Bettany.
- Cameos: Kate Mara, Leslie Bibb, Clark Gregg, John Slattery, DJ AM, Stan Lee and Elon Musk.
- Setting: Marvel universe.
- Style: Superhero action fun.
- Pacing: Intense.
- Story: Here, we can feel the more anti-hero side of Tony Stark. It's still a light action flick, but with a slightly darker edge. The comical part comes more from his business nemesis who pulls us in a different direction giving us a multi-tiered challenged.
- Ending: The final touch is a bit easy.
- Epilogue: The usual.
- Dialogs: Witty, intelligent and well done, except for the Russian bad guy. Personally, I think they made him just a bit too inarticulate.
- Characters: Well developed and with nice depth, especially for a superhero flick. The Russian bad guy again draws the short straw and gets heavily stereotyped.
- Acting: Great.
- Visuals: Nice.
- Special Effects: Great.
- Afterthoughts: Excellent entertainment. Very surprised at the evenness of the quality.
The Avengers — The best superhero movie ever made — 10*/10
- Overall: Incredible action, great story, excellent characters, full of jokes and spectacular special effects. A masterwork by the amazing Joss Whedon.
- Who is it for? Anyone, unless you truly hate the genre.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/
- Known actors: Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Clark Gregg and Samuel L. Jackson.
- Cameos: Gwyneth Paltrow and Paul Bettany.
- Setting: Marvel universe.
- Style: Superhero action fun.
- Pacing: Intense.
- Intro: Action packed.
- Story: Huge action, complex, detailed and highly entertaining.
- Ending: Explosive and very heroic.
- Epilogue: Nice. With Marvel, it always leads to something else.
- Dialogs: Slick, witty and fun.
- Characters: Most of them are interesting and funny, while other are much simpler.
- Acting: Great for most of them. I just love Mark Ruffalo as Banner, the best interpretation yet.
- Visuals: Astounding. Huge.
- Special Effects: Perfect.
- Afterthoughts: I was simply wowed when I saw it.

Doctor Strange — A very good super hero flick well worth seeing — 8*/10
- Overall: Extremely entertaining with gorgeous special effects.
- Who is it for? Anyone looking for sci-fi/fantasy or super heroes.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1211837/
- Known actors: Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
- Cameos: Benjamin Bratt.
- Style: Super heroes or fantasy.
- Pacing: Fast, maybe a bit too quick when it comes to a few things. The waiting at the door goes by a bit too quickly, we can't really feel it.
- Intro: Nicely done, we get everything we need to know in a very short time.
- Story: It's always difficult to do a good first movie with a new super hero. You need the background story and an adventure story at the same time. Usually, like here, the adventure story is rather simple. That being said, the action is amazing and there are a number of good gags.
- Ending: Very interesting culmination. Solid logic.
- Epilogue: Simple and to the point.
- Dialogs: Well done. Funny at times.
- Characters: What you'd expect from a super hero flick. Simple and entertaining.
- Acting: Nice. Nothing complex.
- Visuals: Often gorgeous.
- Special Effects: Excellent, near perfect.
- Afterthoughts: I had a lot of fun. Very well done.

Suicide Squad — Entertaining super hero movie but nothing more — 7*/10
- Overall: It's enjoyable, it's funny, but it's not satisfying. They had something great and they messed it up.
- Who is it for? Super hero fans or those in need of an action fix.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1386697/
- Known actors: Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Viola Davis and Jared Leto.
- Cameos: Ben Affleck.
- Style: Super hero action flick.
- Intro: Felt too rushed.
- Story: Very simple. If it wasn't for all the trimmings, it would have been boring, because a few scenes even fall totally flat. That being said, lots of good character moments and great action.
- Ending: Some things are really cool, while others really aren't.
- Epilogue: Nice. Predictable, though.
- Dialogs: Funny, but some bits aren't really audible.
- Characters: I love Harley Quinn and that version of the Joker is pretty good too, even if it's not the best one. Worst one is the Australian. How boring is he? Deadshot, not sure about him. Maybe too good to be bad. Diablo? Very surprising! Bad guy? Uninteresting and visually weak. Bad girl? Interesting in the first half, but pretty boring in the last half.
- Acting: Good, except for Flag who didn't even make par.
- Visuals: Astounding. 3D totally NOT worth it, but didn't interfere with the experience.
- Special Effects: Solid.
- Costumes: Love them!
- Sound: IMAX was amazing.

X-Men: Apocalypse — A solid super-hero flick — 8*/10
- Story: Interesting backstory, well developed plot, solid high voltage action and even a few jokes.
- Characters: I don't like it when the mess around with the comic book version of a hero or villain, and I like it even less when they change or contradict already released movies. Consistency makes for a better experience. Beyond that, the characters are your basic hero/villain types.
- Acting: Good, for the most part.
- Known actors: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne and Sophie Turner.
- Special Effects: Strong and beautiful.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3385516/
- Entertainment value: Solid.
- Who is it for? Anyone looking for action or super heroes.

Captain America: Civil War —Nice super-hero flick with good action — 8*/10
- Story: Nice little intrigue, nothing big, but adequate for the genre. A few jokes (a fraction compared to the number of jokes in other Marvel flicks), lots of solid action, simple story but good tension between the two camps, all of it very logical.
- Ending: Interesting development, but not very imaginative.
- Dialogs: Adequate.
- Characters: What we're used to, except for Spiderman... how disappointing. Worst Spidey rendition in a long time. May Parker? That's quite a departure. I like the idea, but I'm pretty sure some fans are going to howl.
- Acting: Solid, except for Spiderman. Ugh.
- Known actors: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle and Jeremy Renner.
- Cameos: Marisa Tomei, Hope Davis, John Slattery, William Hurt and Stan Lee.
- Special Effects: Solid, but unfortunately, our suspension of disbelief is tried very hard when an action doesn't have a reaction. A motorcycle weighs less than a car. A man weighs less than an helicopter.
- Costumes: The usual, except for Spiderman. Lousy. Why such mistreatment of Spidey?
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3498820/
- Entertainment value: Solid.
- Who is it for? Anyone who likes super-heroes or is looking for some good action. Not for those who haven't seen other Marvel flicks.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — What an ass-kicking movie! — 10*/10
- Story: Riveting. It's bursting at the seams with action with a souped up little three way plot, good number of different sub-stories and strong emotional involvement.
- Ending: Solid.
- Characters: Great take on those classic characters, I especially love this incarnation of Wonder Woman. She's amazing. And I like this version of Alfred. Actually, the only one I find overly simple is Superman, but then, I've always found him rather insipid.
- Acting: Pretty good. Nothing to complain about.
- Known actors: Ben Affleck (the best Batman yet), Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg (very surprising role), Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Holly Hunter and Gal Gadot.
- Visuals: They will draw you in.
- Special Effects: Perfect.
- Costumes: Excellent, but why did they put such big breast on Wonder Woman's costume when the actress has actually smaller cups? It's annoying on a particularly good version of the character.
- Score: Astounding!
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2975590/
- Entertainment value: Extremely high.
- Who is it for? Anyone unless you are allergic to super heroes or do not want to see action.
3D not worth it, but say yes to IMAX. I'm not surprised, considering the quality of the film, that Christopher Nolan is one of its executive producer.

Deadpool — Fucking hilarious hero flick and powerful entertainment — 8*/10
- Story: A straight forward origin story with tons of wink to the hero genre. Lots of action and humour. I loved the rough rider romance until they got the bad news. Then, it changed too abruptly for my taste. More over, his investigation is just a series of repetition, although the change of costume is interesting. That being said, what's not to love about the rest?
- Style: Achronological with a humorous self-satirical narration by the main onscreen character directed straight at the viewer breaking the usual barrier between a movie and its audience. You gotta like the style, but even if you don't, it's funny as hell.
- Pacing: Fast with a few breaks that are still intense.
- Ending: Predictable, but the jokes helped.
- Dialogs: Extremely funny and very witty. Totally perfect.
- Characters: Simple, even as super heroes go.
- Acting: Great performance by the main characters. The others... meh.
- Known actors: Ryan Reynolds (excellent as the witty Deadpool), Morena Baccarin (she's just awesome!) and T.J. Miller.
- Special Effects: Not perfect, but still great.
- Music: Excellent choices, usually very funny ones.
- Score: Awesome, you're right in the action.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1431045/
- Entertainment value: Very, very high.
- Who is it for? Any one looking for action or fun and super hero fans.

Fantastic Four — A disappointment on many levels — 5*/10
This reset of the franchise might have made Grimm and Reeds better, but failed at everything else. I only recommend this if you're in a need of a super hero fix, you've seen everything else and you require something new. It's not that it has anything bad in it, it's just that it doesn't have anything engaging.

Ant-Man — As solid super-hero action flick — 7*/10
- Scenario: This is your standard super-hero flick. Even though the story doesn't bring anything new to the table, the humor is quite good, as is the action and the entertainment value.
- Known actors: Paul Rudd (a solid performance), Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, Michael Peña (an incredibly funny performance), Corey Stoll, Judy Greer, Anthony Mackie, Bobby Cannavale and John Slattery.
- Visual & sound: Excellent.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0478970/
- Who is it for? Those wanting a nice action flick with solid humor or super-hero fans.

Iron Man — An incredible start for this great super hero franchise — 8*/10
- Scenario: This first chapter of the franchise was a big success and understandably so. Not only does it have great action, an almost roller coaster succession of fights, but everything around those was close to perfection. The only exception and my only regret is that I found the story a little light. It did give us a nice version of the birth of Iron Man and its successive improvements, but the last third of the movie was somewhat stark. That being said, do not let this deter you from seeing it, because it ranks amongst the best super hero flicks out there, and, please, do not miss the third chapter (read my review here), it's amazing.
- Dialogs: Great, fast paced, loads of details.
- Characters: An even better development than in the comics. I loved how they made characters out of the robots, just hilarious.
- Actors: Robert Downey Jr. is the perfect Tony Stark, showing all its qualities and flaws in a beautiful rendition. The rest of the cast did a good job too. Cast members include Gwyneth Paltrow (just right for the role), Jeff Bridges (excellent performance on his part in a surprising role), Leslie Bibb, Paul Bettany (now, I can't imagine Jarvis with any other voice), Terrence Howard, Clark Gregg and Jon Favreau (who also did an amazing job as director).
- Photography: Great.
- Sound: Electrifying music and score.
- Special effects: Perfect.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371746/
- Who is it for? Any super hero or Downey fans.
mardi 19 mai 2015
The Amazing Spider-Man — A welcomed reset of the franchise — 7*/10
- Scenario: This reset of the Spider-Man franchise did not meet my expectation, the hero inception part strayed too far from its comic book version. However, the rest of the movie is good, if not as good as the previous incarnation or its incredible sequel (read my review of it here: The Amazing Spider-Man 2). That being said, it is a welcomed reset of the franchise because the previous one wasn't producing good movies anymore.
- Dialogs: Very nice.
- Characters: Good for the most part.
- Actors: Good work for the most part, even though I thought that Martin Sheen has done some much better performances and Sally Field just didn't fit as aunt May. Cast members include Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Denis Leary.
- Photography: Nice.
- Sound: Well done music and score.
- Special effects: Excellent.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0948470/
- Who is it for? Spider-Man fans, and those looking for action or super-heroes.
jeudi 7 mai 2015
Avengers: Age of Ultron — A kick-ass super hero film — 10*/10
- Scenario: An extremely well rounded scenario and a worthy sequel to the first chapter as well as a nice overarching film for Marvel. Incredible fight scenes, an interesting intrigue and a captivating story. You can clearly see the same mastermind behind this incredible work: Joss Whedon.
- Dialogs: A bit of philosophy, some psychology and a lot of funny one liners.
- Characters: The usual. Well made.
- Actors: Great work on the part of everyone. Cast members include Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, James Spader, Samuel L. Jackson, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Andy Serkis and Julie Delpy.
- Photography: Excellent
- Sound: Nice music and score.
- Special effects: Astounding.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2395427/
- Who is it for? Anyone looking for action and, of course, super hero fans.
