The Dark Crystal — A classic if old fantasy story full of details — 7*/10

• Scenario: A great adventure story to save a mystical world from its evil masters. Lots of fantastic creatures, small and big, good and bad. Incredible level of details. Simple story, but entertaining and engrossing. A very high point for Jim Henson and Frank Oz's cinematic carriers as directors.
• Visual & sound: Beautiful handcrafted decors and puppets. So, most of the special effects still look good today, to a few exceptions including the whole cataclysmique ending which was obviously beyond 1982 capabilities.

• Who is it for? For fantasy lovers who don't mind a bit of old fashion special effects.

TRON — The original life inside a computer story — 7*/10

• Scenario: Set in the golden age of arcades and personal computers with command line interface, it takes us into their micro systems showing us the virtual lives of programs. Originally, it was a hit because of its imagery, novelty and the way it can stir the imagination. Back then, beyond the usual suspension of belief required for any sci-fi, the only reproach one could have directed towards it was the fact that no command line interface ever required full sentence command, like they're showing. Over three decades later, it's still entertaining if you're ready for its antiquity.
• Known actors: A young Jeff Bridges.
• Visual & sound: In its day, the visuals were spectaculars, but they now show their age, painfully so. The only glory they have left is the creativity they showed back then. They have more sentimental value for those who remember seeing it then than anything else.

• Who is it for? The nostalgic fans, or anyone curious enough to see what the original was like. Those new to this movie should keep very low expectations or suffer the consequences.

Conan the Barbarian — The legendary character in his original and greatest screen incarnation — 10*/10

• Story: The storytelling transitions us with great smoothness from infancy to present and unto destiny. The narration is superb using Mako's singular voice.
• Characters: The characters are just perfect. I love the wizard and Subotai.
• Dialogs: Very little and that's fine suiting the genre to a dot.
• Scenario: Tight with many different types of scenes and an inescapable momentum, like an avalanche.
• Actors: Great work by everyone. Arnold Schwarzenegger was made to play this role, very few words and all attitude, his sword forms are attention grabbing. Let us not forget the incredible performance of James Earl Jones. Cast members also include Max von Sydow, and Mako.
• Photography: Excellent. The scenes are gritty and realistic, something that wasn't well done at the time.
• Sound: Perfect music and score that truly transport you and put your right in the action or gives you shivers and heighten the suspense.
• Special effects: It's not a special effect movie, and that's a good thing because those that are present tend to show their age. Fortunately, there's few of them and usually very short, so they're easily overlooked.

• Who is it for? Anyone who likes action fantasy. The film has aged well, even considering the special effects.

The collector's edition as a few nice additions and a fuller ending. Robert E. Howard's character is legendary and you can see the hand of Oliver Stone in the screenplay for its sheer genius.

Blade Runner — Is one of those old movies everyone should watch at least once — 9*/10

Blade Runner is another masterpiece by Ridley Scott.

The good. This is an other production where you could list almost everything here. I'll just mention what really makes it special. The score is marvelous, and with the great sets, the very imaginative environment, and the multitude of details, you get immersed extremely quickly in the story. Again, Scott shows he's one of the best at setting the mood, presenting us with every piece of the puzzle, giving us a good background, and letting us float in his vision. Excellent acting on the part of all the cast. The ending really makes you think.

The actors. Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer are at the top of their game and it shows.

The bad. It's a getting a little bit old, but it's not showing much considering it's been over three decades. Also, the timeframe of the predictions is off, but that's always the case.

The ugly. Nothing.

The result. A must. See the director's cut, not the theatrical release.
