- Overall: Great entertainment, very original with lots of fun and action. Just a few CGIs that are getting a bit old.
- Who is it for? Anyone looking for some really interesting sci-fi who don't mind a few shots that look their age.
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119654/
- Known actors: Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith, Vincent D'Onofrio, Linda Fiorentino and Rip Torn.
- Setting: 1997, New York City.
- Style: High action sci-fi comedy.
- Pacing: Fast with a few very short breathers.
- Intro: The bug flight is annoying after the first time, but the rest is great and gets you right in and very intrigued without giving away too much. Don't like the in-studio look, but it's a style.
- Story: You settle in this weird unknown parallel universe with style and fun, then the action starts and it gets even funnier with a lot of action. Very stylish. Nice intrigue.
- Ending: Solid. Loved it. Special effects getting a bit old here and there.
- Epilogue: Funny. Like it.
- Dialogs: Very funny with lots of words.
- Characters: Very well done, nice depth, if simple.
- Acting: Great, if a bit too slick for Smith, but it's a solid style and funny. D'Onofrio is amazing.
- Special Effects: Most hold the road still, while others show their age. Can be appreciated anyway.
- Score: Nice and weirdly nice, by the great Danny Elfman.
- Afterthoughts: In the years following its debut, it was always a great watch, extremely entertaining. It was a hit. Now, it's still nice to watch, because it's a good movie, but the CGIs do get a bit old.
I've decided to simply go for a score without any review. Maybe I'll start again doing full reviews someday.

Men in Black — Still extremely entertaining sci-fi even after all these years — 8*/10

Good Will Hunting — Straight to the heart — 10*/10
- Story: Quickly captivates your mind. Very touching.
- Characters: Lots of depth. You can really feel them. Nice psychological background.
- Dialogs: Straight, solid, and often funny or with lots of emotions.
- Scenario: Great pacing, nice balance between light scenes and those more charged. Things get wrapped up pretty well, but not in a must be rosy at all cost way. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck did a superb job. The only reproach I would have to mention is when the girl first mention California, it wasn't introduced at all.
- Actors: Robin Williams is simple and right on the dot, you can't help but feel what he feels. Matt Damon did a great performance and it put him on the map. Ben Affleck and the other south Boston buddies were perfect. Minnie Driver was very endearing and touching. Stellan Skarsgård was so-so, but maybe it's just because I couldn't tolerate his character.
- Photography: Nice.
- Special effects: None
- Synopsis & information: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119217/
- Who is it for? Those rooting for the underdog, who don't mind crying and laughing in the same movie, who like simple realistic romance, or who like solid psychological scaffold to their story.

U Turn - A walk on the crazy side - 9*/10
U Turn is a star studded creation by Oliver Stone with lots twist and turns as well as being mightily twisted. It takes Stone's special creative vision to really make this story stand out and feel like stepping into a nightmare after a really wrong turn.
Actors include: Sean Penn, Jennifer Lopez, Nick Nolte, Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Voight, Joaquin Phoenix, Claire Danes, and Liv Tyler.
A must for anyone not bothered by violence, but be ready for weird.

Alien: Resurrection — Don't bother watching it — 5*/10
Alien: Resurrection is the 4th and worst installment of the Alien series without a doubt. Unfortunately, from time to time, I feel the need to see it, because I'm a die hard fan. Anybody else should avoid it like the pest, except to have a good laugh.

The Fifth Element — Max fun and max action in an almost burlesque future — 8*/10
The Fifth Element a sci-fi action extravaganza by Luc Besson.
The good. Funny. Outrageous settings and costumes. Wildly imaginative technology and prognostics for the future. Lots of action.
The actors. Bruce Willis is in his middle phase. Not his best performance, but still pretty good. Gary Oldman is right as the evil Zorg, the trash of humanity. Ian Holm give us a great performance as the overwhelmed and slightly klutzy priest. Milla Jovovich's role doesn't require much of her, but she's simply adorable. And finally, Chris Tucker is fantastic as the extremely annoying radio DJ. It takes a few times seeing the flick to get used to him, but he's just perfect.
The bad. The story is your basic save the world concept, with the ultimate evil, the criminals helping out, and the good guys, which include the army. Nothing inventive there.
The ugly. The pet is too obviously a puppet.
The result. Lots of sci-fi fun.

The Postman — After destroying itself how can society get back up on its feet — 7*/10
The Postman is a post-apocalypse survival movie geared toward society and what it means to be a society.
The good. The settings are well chosen and built. Great main characters with nicely developing personas. Interesting story. Good pace. The intro is solid and really puts us in the right mood.
The actors. Kevin Costner is a great fit for his role as a loner surviving on his wits. Olivia Williams is disarmingly charming as the sweet girl with a budding iron determination. Will Patton makes us hate his egocentric character right away. You can't help but get attached to Larenz Tate as the over eager young man looking for meaning to his life. Daniel von Bargen as the suspicious sheriff is just right. And finally, Giovanni Ribisi in the small role of an almost psychotic blind follower is astounding.
The bad. Just a few things. Galloping horses before the siege. Really? You needed to do that to build the tension before the attack? The cable ride. A horse would have been just as good.
The ugly. The 30 years later ending. Fuck that! It ruined the movie. Cut it out and it's an additional star, easy.
The result. The length of the movie is not for everybody, but it's good entertainment.

Chasing Amy — Very emotional and unusual romance with some jokes and a bit of tragedy — 8*/10
Chasing Amy is about the one that got away, and how stupid and hurtful we can be when we're confronted something that test the limit of our knowledge. Romance with a few gags, a tragedy, a movie where you can stop and think. What would you have done? Personally, I think the girl and the black guy are very wise. The two white dudes are pure vanilla stupid.
The emotional scenes are touching, and the dialogs are as solid as Kevin Smith can make them. The story is captivating with nice novel ideas, and the maturity of the treatment in the subject matter is beyond reproach.
Joey Lauren Adams is little known as actresses go, but she gives us a powerful and very emotional performance. Ben Affleck might not be at his best, but it is still a pretty good performance. While you just want to slap some sense into Jason Lee's character, he plays the uncouth badmouth with little respect like a pro.
The only little negative thing I would have to say, is that the "lie" rear up it's ugly head as a plot development.
Looking for a nice romance with an offbeat sentiment and you don't mind if it's not as slick as the high budget flicks Hollywood produces? This is yours. Try it.

Starship Troopers — Glorious sci-fi action without being too serious about it — 7*/10
Starship Troopers is a science-fiction action flick that is also a little caricature of itself. You can't take it seriously, or you'll be missing the point, really. The bravado is exaggerated, the undertakings are epic, and the army isn't very bright.
That being said, the future it depicts is an interesting take, and it was well exploited and presented.
I love Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Neil Patrick Harris, and Michael Ironside in their respective roles. They really give this flick all its flair. You want to slap some sense in Denise Richards' character and kick her co-pilot's ass, but that's what the director had obviously in mind. All in all, it's a nice cast.
Now, this movie has a special dichotomy: most of the CGI are very well done, whereas some of sets especially when it comes to shuttles, interior or exterior, look a little bit on the cheap side. Maybe it's a question of bad design, but it's weird.
Anyway, it's good entertainment, especially if you like sci-fi and action.

The Game — Tightly woven suspense with great attention to details — 9*/10
The Game is a great suspense by David Fincher that will keep you guessing until the very end. The quality is evident, because its age doesn't show at all.
The sound environment and music are extremely well thought out to completely immerse you in the game. Rich set and wardrobe, as well as smooth camera work and editing will completely cocoon you, keeping your attention well riveted on the screen. The scenario will captivate and won't release you before the movie ends, with a series of intriguing and tightly woven scenes.
This is one of my favorite role of Michael Douglas, even better than Wall Street (review upcoming) because he's less of an ass hole here. Sean Penn has a nice supporting role that I like a lot.
Watch it for the first time, and you'll see, you'll wish to be able to watch it for the first time again.
