Underworld: Blood Wars — Good, but like some others it isn't very innovative — 6*/10

• Overall: After the first Underworld (read my review here), the others were really redundant. They keep talking about the same thing over and over again. It gets even a bit boring, but it's full of action.
• Who is it for? Those looking for more of the same are in luck.

• Style: Dark vampire-werewolf action.
• Pacing: Too quick. Too many of the things you need to assimilate are over in the blink of an eye. You have no time to really feel them.
• Intro: Being a follow-up chapter in a long list, you really need the background to understand the situation. Beyond that, it's dull.
• Story: Simple and very linear, but it does have a lot of content. Too much to be well processed given the editing. Loved the Northern coven idea, a definite high point.
• Ending: Well, it is what it is. On par with the story.
• Epilogue: Well, they had to open the door to the next chapter, hadn't they?
• Dialogs: Simple.
• Characters: Simple.
• Acting: Good, actually this is one of the two best aspects of this flick.
• Visuals: Pretty.
• Special Effects: This is the second thing that's any good.
• Costumes: Great.
• Afterthoughts: Could have been better. Could have been worst (and some of the other movies of the franchise have been). I wasn't too disappointed and I was entertained.

Underworld — A good dark vampire versus werewolves action film — 7*/10

• Overall: This is the kind of flick that's easy to like and be entertained by. Lots of good things, few weak ones.
• Who is it for? Anyone looking for some action, vampires or werewolves.

• Style: Dark vampire-werewolf action.
• Pacing: Quite fast with a few pauses. Very good.
• Intro: Good. Narrated monologue.
• Story: Lots of action, a nice little intrigue, some betrayals, a few reversals and romance. Everything you need to keep things interesting.
• Ending: Abrupt. Although it had been going on for a little while, the finishing touch kind of comes too easily.
• Epilogue: Short. A few words, a few images. Just right.
• Dialogs: Simple, but interesting.
• Characters: Well built, with nice complexities, but without enough depth.
• Acting: Surprisingly solid, although there are two exceptions. The character of Kraven is overplayed, I think, and the one of Michael Corvin is played too weakly, you can't really feel him.
• Visuals: Love the dark look. Grimy for the werewolves, sleek and chic for the vampires.
• Special Effects: Great, but you can see a few minor imperfections, now. It used to be amazing.
• Costumes: Great.
• Afterthoughts: Although it has a lot of strengths, with the exception of one actor, this film actually feels as good as it could have been and I'm not sure why. I think it's a combination of that actor, the characters and the ending.

Only Lovers Left Alive — Extremely low key but still delicious vampire movie — 9*/10

• Scenario: Very slow development, as low key as it gets, no action at all, but you get to feel everything down to the smallest particle, which, in a way, is how these vampires go through life. The result is much better than what the synopsis might entail.
• Dialogs: Simple, elegant and right with the tone.
• Characters: Grounded, as real as you can make those, and with a lot of depth.
• Actors: Beautiful work on the part of everyone. Cast members include Tilda Swinton, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, Anton Yelchin, Jeffrey Wright, and John Hurt.
• Photography: Smooth camera work, amazingly detailed and well thought out sets and decors.
• Sound: Perfect music and score, very moody.
• Special effects: None.

• Who is it for? Anyone who likes a slow developing and moody movie or vampire aficionados who don't mind the lack of action. A must discover.

Bram Stoker's Dracula — The original story is still one of the best — 9*/10

• Story: The amazing director Francis Ford Coppola tried to stay close to Bram Stoker's original dark romance story that gave birth to Dracula, and the onscreen result is quite gripping. 
• Characters: Well done. The primary characters are strong, the secondary ones seem to have been done in a slightly caricatural manner, in an homage to the long line of Dracula movies, I think.
• Dialogs: Very novelistic.
• Scenario: Excellent. A great pace that keeps us riveted and our adrenaline up. It's full of action, romance and eroticism.
• Actors: I don't really like Gary Oldman in this role even if he did a good job, and I think that Keanu Reeves didn't serve us as good a performance as he could have, but the rest did very well. Cast members include Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Richard E. Grant, Tom Waits, and Monica Bellucci.
• Photography: Good.
• Sound: Great music and score. Entrancing.
• Special effects: Some purposefully chosen special effects give the production an old feel to it, like the miniatures and the very dark sets, an other sort of homage to its predecessors, I think. With those effects are mixed what used to be state of the art and are now aging, like the mists. The result is still quite enjoyable if you're looking at it from the right point of view.

• Who is it for? Anyone looking for a dark tale or doomed ancient romance and, of course, vampire aficionados.

Interview with the Vampire — What it feels like to be a vampire — 10*/10

• Story: Astoundingly detailed and with a profound melodramatic background. Really captivates you and makes you understand what kind of quandary a vampire can find himself in.
• Characters: Extremely well built with great depth.
• Dialogs: Scintillating. Perfect for the genre and the subject.
• Scenario: Nicely paced, excellent for a more low key flick like this fantasy documentary/biography type production.
• Actors: Excellent performance on everyone's part. Cast members include Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Antonio Banderas, a very young Kirsten Dunst who got shot into the spotlight with this film, Christian Slater, and Thandie Newton.
• Photography: Great.
• Sound: Good music and score.
• Special effects: Perfect for the time and aged very well.

• Who is it for? Those who like a good dark story and any vampire or fantasy fan. Beware, though, action is not a big part of it, but there is some.

Midnight Son — An usual vampire movie that could have been so much more — 6*/10

• Story: Interesting concepts with lots of novel ideas. Unfortunately, poor execution ruins it all.
• Characters: Acceptable.
• Dialogs: Good if a bit weird.
• Scenario: Nice slow pace. However, the only well done scene is the last one. Very powerful.
• Actors: A few of them are good, most aren't.
• Photography: Poor. Except for the last scene.
• Sound: Acceptable music, poor score and even unacceptable at one point.
• Special effects: Acceptable.

• Who is it for? Only if you really need to and are curious as well as being a vampire fan who likes the unusual.

Kiss of the Damned — Chilling psychological vampire film with a few novelties — 9*/10

• Story: Chilling, dark and somber. Very psychological with a slow development, a number of surprises and a few new looks on the genre. Love the end.
• Characters: Interesting and well made, except for the writer whom we'd wish a be more development, his story is too simple. In other cases, great depth and inner conflicts or ruthless intelligence with an edge of subtle madness.
• Dialogs: Very interesting. Perfect for the genre.
• Scenario: Well built with an incredible pace for such a short movie. The few very sexy scenes are just lovely. My favorite scene is the philosophical discussion between vampires, just perfect and very representative of the movie.
• Actors: Great work on the part of everyone. Cast members include Michael Rapaport and Milo Ventimiglia.
• Photography: Nice.
• Sound: Good music and excellent dark dissonant score that reminds me a bit of The Shining giving you chills without even trying.
• Special effects: Acceptable.

• Who is it for? It's for everyone who don't mind blood or a slow development. Of course, vampire lovers should definitively watch.

Byzantium — I highly recommend this vampire film if you don't mind the unusual — 9*/10

• Story: Very unusual. Lots bizarre elements mixed in with a few recognizable ones. A number of big surprises.
• Characters: Well developed with a nice depth to them.
• Dialogs: Solid.
• Scenario: Great pacing and montage, get you riveted.
• Actors: Excellent work on the part of everyone.
• Photography: Nice.
• Sound: Good music and score.
• Special effects: Acceptable.

What We Do in the Shadows — It's ridiculous, but don't judge, just enjoy — 6*/10

• Story: A completely goofy false documentary comedy a hair's breath away from ridiculous.

• Dialogs: Funny, if simple and a bit overdone.
• Scenario: Interesting.
• Actors: Good work.
• Photography: Simple.
• Sound: Acceptable, but at time the score would get a bit on my nerve.
• Special effects: Acceptable.

• Who is it for? Those who aren't afraid of ridicule, want to enjoy something off the wall and do not need a glamorous production. Not for vampire fans.

Vampire Academy - Good idea with a very lame execution - 5*/10

Vampire Academy is a much better trailer than movie. It's barely television quality on all levels: story, scenario, dialogs, characters, acting, settings, and special effects. Buffy the Vampire Slayer season 2 is on par with this flick, never mind the following seasons.

For teen vampire fans only.

Underworld: Awakening barely has a story let alone an interesting scenario. It's only compelling features are that you get to revisit an interesting world, an interesting premise, and Kate Beckinsale.

From Dusk Till Dawn is a mad gory movie by Robert Rodriguez a good friend of Quentin Tarantino. Solid setup, imaginative ideas for the second part. You want action, you want tension, you want bloody explosion, it's for you. The show down is not well choreographed, but it's highly entertaining. It's starts as a level-headed crime flick, and ends up as something else totally.

Actors include: Harvey Keitel, George Clooney, and Juliette Lewis.

If you don't mind craziness and blood, you should definitively see it.

Rufus — Much greater than the sum of its parts — 9*/10

Rufus is a low budget small town canadian emo vampire movie. That being said, once it's over, you can't but acknowledge that it's a solid production. Each scene and each character is meticulously crafted and it shows. All the ideas behind this piece are great and imaginative. The atmosphere is well built, and, even if the rhythm is a bit slow, especially to establish the setting, the pace suits the style. The only thing that annoyed me was the intro credit scene. However infuriating it is, I'll admit that it sets the tone of the film.

A must see if you don't mind slow development.

Blade — Vampire fights with techno music — 7*/10

Blade is an other take on the vampire scene based on a comic book.

The good. Lots of action. Great music. Nice gadgets. Tightly paced scenario.

The actors. This is not an acting movie, but Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, and Stephen Dorff give us acceptable performances. And you can also see Traci Lords.

The bad. Simple story. Some logical flaws in the scenario. Fight scenes look good, but have some slight continuity and timing problems, noticeable when viewed multiple times.

The ugly. Nothing.

The result. Solid entertainment for action or vampire lovers. Don't expect complexity.
