  • Intro: Solid.
  • Story: Nothing new to the vengeance justice plot, but it's done right and full of action.

The Revenant — A brilliant if harsh movie and a must see — 10*/10

  • Scenario: Brutal and bloody, it's still an incredible film. The story keeps you riveted as the shit keeps piling up. The basic ideas are timeless, but this cinematic piece is unique. The end is superb, especially the last few seconds, no easy out. A brilliant masterpiece by Alejandro González Iñárritu, one more to add to his growing list.
  • Known actors: Leonardo DiCaprio (once again, he shows what an incredible actor he is), Tom Hardy and Domhnall Gleeson.
  • Visual & sound: The vistas will astound you, the soundtrack will plunge deep into its emotional ravine, the camera shots will make you live every moment as if you were there.
  • Synopsis & informationhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt1663202/
  • Who is it for? A must see, not for sensible souls.

The Hateful Eight — A bloody, gritty, moody and intriguing western — 9*/10

  • Scenario: Slow and juicy development, full of details, great ideas and gritty humor with an enveloping setting that really puts you in there with those bastards. Blood and gore will be part of it, be assured, but the twists and turns of this little intrigue are what is interesting about the story. Very high entertainment value.
  • Known actors: Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Channing Tatum, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern and Zoë Bell.
  • Visual & sound: Excellent! But what's that thing about 70mm that makes us pay extra? I don't see the difference.
  • Synopsis & informationhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt3460252/
  • Who is it for? Those looking for a nice gritty western or any Quentin Tarantino fans.

Cowboys & Aliens — Explosions and firefights galore with a thread thin story — 5*/10

Cowboys & Aliens is what it says it is. As weird as it sounds, the idea is good, however, the story is a tad predictable with plot schemes as old as the world and a lame backstory romance. More over, my guess is that the big name actors in this flick weren't able to deliver a better performance because there weren't given much to work with. It's entertaining, but not much beyond that.

If you want to see action, special effects, cowboys, and aliens, this is for you.

A Million Ways to Die in the West - Very light entertainment for a slow night - 6*/10

A Million Ways to Die in the West is just silly and totally anachronistic. The trailer gives a good idea of what the movie will be like. Don't expect greatness. Turn your brain off and watch.

For those who don't need a comedy to make sense.

The Lone Ranger — The western hero in full action and fun — 7*/10

The Lone Ranger is an action hero movie mixed with a western.

The good. Lots of intense action. Spectacular photography. Solid special effects. Very funny. Interesting story. Very detailed sets, costumes, and scenes. Well paced scenario.

The actors. Johnny Depp is once again absolutely amazing in this cooky character. William Fichtner as the evil Butch Cavendish gives us a great performance. In a lesser role, Helena Bonham Carter has a surprising presence.

The bad. Unbelievable action since we're not talking about super heroes here.

The ugly. Nothing.

The result. If you like westerns with improbable action or if you're a fan of Depp, this is for you.

Tombstone — Gunslinging with a good flair for action — 8*/10

Tombstone tells a tale that's been told over and over again, but manages to make it interesting.

The good. Well done decor and costumes. Nice photography. Plenty of shootout. Interesting story.

The actors. Kurt Russell did a credible job as Wyatt Earp, but it's probably the extent of his capabilities as you can see his limitations from time to time. Val Kilmer is absolutely excellent as his cultured, but edgy friend, Doc Holliday. Sam Elliott and Bill Paxton both give nice performances as his brothers.

The bad. The river scene is of poor quality, Russell overdoing it by a fair margin, probably under the direction of the director. There are a few scenes where he's not at his best, but that one is the worst.

The ugly. Nothing.

The result. Excellent western action entertainment. Recommended to those who like the genre and the fans of Russell or Kilmer.

Unforgiven — A gritty, dirty, realistic western where abuse is repaired with money — 10*/10

Unforgiven is a gritty realistic western in which Clint Eastwood displays his incredible talent as a director and as an actor.

The photography is amazing. The story is captivating and touching. There are no excess, just what it takes to tell this sad tale to its fullest. The sets and costumes are dirty and plunge us into the far west in an instant. Each character is well developed, and rich. Each actor well assigned to his role. Any other choices would make for a totally different movie. Gene Hackman and Morgan Freeman hit their mark just as perfectly as Eastwood.

It is a simple tale, but of epic meaning, where survival brings around conflicting morales. It is violent, but all the action is realistically portrayed without any excess of blood.

A must.

Django Unchained — A violent bloody western by Quentin Tarantino — 10*/10

Django Unchained is what a western looks like if done by Quentin Tarantino. It's the type of movie that makes you want to scream for revenge.

Everything is to perfection, and I mean it. The acting is superb, without par. First, from looking at the preview, I thought that Leonardo Dicaprio's character would get on my nerve. Not the case, it fits in perfectly. Jamie Foxx, ever since Collateral, he's been able to play a greater range of personas, and it shows here. It's too bad Kerry Washington doesn't have more scenes, I love her. Finally, Christoph Waltz is the glue of that movie with his strong character.

The soundtrack, the camera shots, the editing, the dialogs, the story, the scenario, all without flaws. When it's slow, it's setting the events in motion, or building background. When it's fast, it's a roller coaster. And there are funny moments too. Those 165min are a breeze.

There's a single very small thing that was wrong. You'll see the lady go in the wrong direction when she gets shot. That was weird.

If you don't mind blood, and lots of it, true to Tarantino, it's a must.
