• Story: Even though the story is pretty simple, you get sucked in by that little intrigue and by the incredible succession of ridiculous antics. You'll laugh and be surprised, constantly asking yourself: "Really?" Solid action.
• Setting: A 70s period piece.
• Style: Action odd pair buddy comedy.
• Pacing: Excellent. Fast with a few nice character moment breathers.
• Ending: Action intense and relatively good.
• Epilogue: Gives a good twist to the ending.

• Story: Only the brilliance of Ridley Scott could possibly make it that interesting. The details are interesting and the technical aspects are done perfectly, but it is by no means thrill ride. There's a limit to what one can do with this story without distorting it.
• Setting: An incredible discovery of major importance for football and any other contact sport.
• Style: Like other historical or biographical flick, this one is simple and without any punch.
• Pacing: Solid.
• Dialogs: Excellent.
• Characters: You really get to know them well and they are well developed.
• Acting: I think this is one of the major reasons for this movie to be this good.
• Known actors: Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, Albert Brooks, Paul Reiser and Luke Wilson.

• Story: Very simple, but interesting. Nice details. There's a number of jokes for adults, but not that many, it's mostly slapstick stuff for kids with action.
• Pacing: Things keep rolling pretty quickly.
• Ending: Meh.
• Dialogs: Simple. Somewhat funny.
• Characters: Very unidimensional.
• Known actors: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader and Peter Dinklage.

• Story: Very interesting, compelling and inspiring. Lots of funny moments as well as a bit of simmering drama that doesn't turn into an enormity.
• Style: Biographical and historical, so, at times, it lacks a bit of punch.
• Ending: Nice, but as anything else based on real events, it kind of sputters out even if there's a bit of surprise.
• Dialogs: Sometimes witty, sometimes funny, but always to the point.
• Characters: Interesting, diverse, well built and nicely fleshed out.
• Acting: Solid.
• Known actors: Bill Nighy.

The Meddler — Ordinary things happening to a well-off widow — 7*/10

• Story: Vaguely interesting, just because you're wondering what's going to happen next. Not that there's anything exciting going on. It's a bunch of stuff you hope doesn't really happen. I'm not sure there's that much of a story here. It's just the life of a woman. It's anecdotal and probably more interesting to women in a similar situation.
• Pacing: Strange.
• Ending: There is, but there isn't. It's everyday stuff that never really ends.
• Dialogs: A lot of it. Lots of narrating too.
• Characters: You get a solid sense of who the main character is, but not really anybody else, they're all unidimensional.
• Acting: Good, mostly.
• Known actors: Susan Sarandon, Rose Byrne and J.K. Simmons.

Money Monster — A tense dramatic suspense you should see — 9*/10

• Story: Powerful, interesting, captivating. Good drama where you'll change your mind more than once.
• Style: A tense suspense with a nice little intrigue.
• Pacing: Quite fast.
• Ending: Perfect.
• Epilogue: We could have done without, but it's really short and doesn't mess anything.
• Dialogs: Excellent. Right on the dot. A bit too slick to be truly realistic, but it all fits.
• Characters: Nice depth and easily understandable for the main characters and secondary ones. Others were a bit too archetypical, but they were mostly insignificant.
• Acting: Superb for the most part. A few members of the supporting cast were less than stellar, but still good.

5 to 7 — Be transported by this romance that will make you think — 9*/10

• Story: Romance born of the clash of two cultures and two very different point of view. Makes you think. I hate the close-minded American puritanical view. Also, the way writing is presented tends to fall into pop psychology.
• Setting: Very opulent, but then it's part of the story and not just only an affectation, so it's sort of forgivable.
• Style: Slow and emotional. You really have the time to feel what is happening.
• Pacing: Good. Very gradual build up. Each scene is focused on one thing and then you go to the next, very naturally.
• Ending: Realistic, as it should be, as most people would have done.
• Epilogue: It's so long that it can almost be considered the ending. I usually hate epilogues. In this case, it's not too bad, probably because it feels more like an ending, since some important realizations only come then.
• Dialogs: Excellent. Maybe a bit on the philosophical side, a lot of the sentence can be used as Twitter post, and I did a few, but still within the realm of possibility.
• Characters: Deep and heartfelt. Touching. Easily identifiable.
• Acting: Superb.
• Known actors: Anton Yelchin, Bérénice Marlohe, Olivia Thirlby, Lambert Wilson, Glenn Close and Frank Langella.
• Cameos: Eric Stoltz.
• Visuals: Beautiful.
• Costumes: Incredible wardrobe.
• Score: Touching. Perfect for the romance and the melancholy.

• Story: His tortured soul really comes through and it can be a bit difficult to watch. However, there is no denying the strength of this movie. The story is a bit simple. The psychology is incredible. Very claustrophobic.
• Ending: It's a biographical piece, so you can't ask for much.
• Dialogs: Strong.
• Characters: Very realistic.
• Acting: Powerful on all accounts.
• Known actors: Tobey Maguire, Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard.

• Story: It starts with some inconforts, then it becomes really funny, totally cooky, original and then one of the worst artifice of romantic comedy rear its ugly head. Just terrible. Add to that another bad representation of psychotherapy and you get a mess. It's interesting, but it could have easily been better.
• Ending: They almost had the perfect ending and they did a double take. How disappointing. It ruins the whole thing.
• Characters: The main character is extremely well built. The others are rather shallow.
• Acting: Excellent when it comes to the main character. The rest is mostly average.
• Known actors: Sally Field and Tyne Daly.

Captain America: Civil War —Nice super-hero flick with good action — 8*/10

• Story: Nice little intrigue, nothing big, but adequate for the genre. A few jokes (a fraction compared to the number of jokes in other Marvel flicks), lots of solid action, simple story but good tension between the two camps, all of it very logical.
• Ending: Interesting development, but not very imaginative.
• Dialogs: Adequate.
• Characters: What we're used to, except for Spiderman... how disappointing. Worst Spidey rendition in a long time. May Parker? That's quite a departure. I like the idea, but I'm pretty sure some fans are going to howl.
• Acting: Solid, except for Spiderman. Ugh.
• Known actors: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle and Jeremy Renner.
• Cameos: Marisa Tomei, Hope Davis, John Slattery, William Hurt and Stan Lee.
• Special Effects: Solid, but unfortunately, our suspension of disbelief is tried very hard when an action doesn't have a reaction. A motorcycle weighs less than a car. A man weighs less than an helicopter.
• Costumes: The usual, except for Spiderman. Lousy. Why such mistreatment of Spidey?

Angels & Demons — The Da Vinci Code was just better — 7*/10

• Story: Following in the footsteps of The Da Vinci Code (read my review here) Ron Howard tried to recreate the same magic combination. Unfortunately, this time, while the intrigue isn't too bad, it isn't as strong as the previous chapter while the background story is markedly less interesting. So, to compensate, he cranked up the suspense and the action resulting in an unfortunate creation with a number of logical flaws.
• Setting: Rich Vatican and Roman history.
• Pacing: Raggedly fast.
• Ending: Predictable.
• Characters: Uninteresting.
• Acting: Good.
• Known actors: Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor.
• Special Effects: Not bad, but showing flaws.

The Da Vinci Code — A great intrigue plunging into Christian myth — 8*/10

This great movie by director Ron Howard is a bit difficult to rate straight on. The reason for its initial popularity was the great intrigue and the fabulous backstory. Having seen it a second time today, I can say that the rest, beyond the visual, is as great. I will say no more beyond encouraging anyone who hasn't seen it to do so.

Sing Street — Brightens your day and elevates your heart in a real way — 9*/10

• Story: It's all about getting the girl and music. No scene is wasted. Each and everyone of them has meaning. They feel real. You'd want to be part of them and go along with them.
• Style: It's incredibly sweet, but not sugary. It's a sweetness that brightens your day and elevates your heart. It's a bit sentimental, a bit funny, and totally genuine.
• Ending: Excellent.
• Dialogs: Sweet, thoughtful and sometimes witty or funny.
• Characters: Perfect. You have a nice depth to the main characters, and the supporting ones do not feel empty of unidimensional. They don't follow the usual lines or they don't stay there. The interactions between the two brothers is particularly powerful.
• Acting: Right on the dot. Can't ask for more.
• Costumes: Great. Thoughtfully done.
• Music: Excellent, especially the new songs. You definitively have the 80's vibe, but it's not full glam, cheap or kitch.

• Who is it for? Everyone, unless you can't stand a bit of the 80's.

Special Correspondents — Simple yet well thought through must see comedy — 8*/10

• Story: Very funny. This story takes you through a varied sequence of event that are all tightly knit. Most of them aren't things you would have imagined right away. They were obviously crafted to entertain outside the usual boundaries. Extremely well thought out scenario with no easily visible logical flaws. Such a relief when you get one of those.
• Ending: Hilarious. Logical, if improbable.
• Dialogs: Funny. Witty.
• Characters: Very interesting and well built.
• Acting: Solid.
• Known actors: Ricky Gervais and Eric Bana.
• Cameos: Benjamin Bratt.
• Visuals: Simple, but effective. Obviously a low budget movie.

Ricky Gervais did some excellent work writing and directing this flick as well as playing one of the two main characters.

Mother's Day — A glitzy fluff piece that falls short of the on screen talent — 6*/10

• Story: Nothing interesting, just more of the usual plus all the old ideas about marriage and kids imposed by society rehashed in a disappointing gruel. There was a few hilarity, though.
• Setting: Upper class. Just a lot of glitters to make the average viewer continue to dream the American dream.
• Style: Fluffy.
• Ending: Somewhat redeeming. The last third at least tries to do something with that disappointing mess.
• Dialogs: Inadequate, sometimes funny.
• Characters: Unidimensional. They threw in a gay couple, an Indian and a dead soldier to add diversity. That's weak.
• Acting: Meh, for the most part. The best ones were Aniston, Hudson and Sudeikis.
• Known actors: Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant, Hector Elizondo and Julia Roberts.

Barbershop: The Next Cut — Easy jokes with very little more — 5*/10

I think a preschooler could have come up with that story. Scratch that. A preschooler would have made it more interesting, if unlikely. Lots of talent, little to no content. Most jokes are funny, but the rest is ludicrously boring.

How to Make Love Like an Englishman — A nice little romantic comedy — 6*/10

• Story: Surprising. On a number of occasion, the movie takes the road less traveled. Those aren't completely unexpected moves, but it does add a little spice. It's sweet, light, funny and full of beautiful people.
• Setting: Gorgeous. Nothing the average viewer can afford.
• Ending: Weak.
• Dialogs: Good.
• Characters: Interesting, even if none of them are very deep.
• Acting: Good.
• Known actors: Salma Hayek, Jessica Alba, Pierce Brosnan and Malcolm McDowell.

Les intouchables — Un film cérébral absolument touchant et attachant — 10*/10

Impossible de ne pas aimer à moins d'être allergique aux sentiments et à l'humour. Vous allez immanquablement rire et vous ne pourrez faire autrement qu'être touché. L'humour intellectuel de la rue à la rescousse du fatalisme, de la déprime et de l'isolation.

Les prises de vue sont incroyablement belles tant au niveau du cadrage que de la lumière et des décors. Des acteurs parfaits pour leur rôle, des personnages d'une grande profondeur ainsi que des dialogues délectables et naturels bien qu'ils aient la perfection du construit. À voir absolument.

Elvis & Nixon — It is farcical and very difficult to get a good feeling for — 7*/10

• Story: I thought it was going to be much more funny, but it's serious most of the time. The thing is that too many elements turns around things that are certainly artistic interpretations, so the mix of funny and serious doesn't work for me.
• Pacing: It seems to go by fits and spurts. You get settled in a certain way and it changes on you. You get settled again and it changes again. Multiple times.
• Ending: As any true story, it's kind of boring, but that's why we have fictional works.
• Characters: Interesting interpretations. If I had to imagine Nixon, I would imagine him like that, exactly. Not true for Elvis, he seems unreal, too plastic. That being said, I think the those interpretations are definitively the cornerstone of this film and make it as good as it can be.
• Acting: Very good, for the most part. This also a key element of this flick.
• Known actors: Kevin Spacey, Michael Shannon and Colin Hanks.

A Hologram for the King — A simple, touching, thoughtful and beautiful movie — 9*/10

• Story: It's difficult to pin down this movie. It doesn't take the usual turns and keep its focus strictly on the main character. You're on the journey with him, but not to the point where you're part of him, just outside, which makes the discoveries very interesting. If I'd have to try to say what it's all about, I'd say it's about going over the hump of a very quiet midlife crisis. You'll laugh, you'll be touched and you'll even get slightly introspective.
• Setting: Beautiful, even gorgeous at times.
• Style: Unassuming. The beauty of the piece takes a little while to discover.
• Pacing: Unusual, but not disconcerting, just don't expect things to move at their usual pace.
• Ending: Great, almost perfect and it concluded more quickly than I'd thought. Everything comes together quite beautifully in a somewhat realistic if slightly magical way.
• Dialogs: Slick and attaching, sometimes funny.
• Characters: Nice depth to each of them.
• Acting: Solid. Right on the dot.
• Known actors: Tom Hanks and Sarita Choudhury.
• Cameos: Tom Skerritt.
• Visuals: Beautiful.

The Huntsman: Winter's War — A fantasy that's not worth it — 5*/10

The only reason to keep watching this flick is the special effects and they aren't that good. The rest is poor at best: the dialogs, story that contains a tiny little twist, the characters and even the action scenes. You better be in a dire need of a fantasy fix to see this.

Foxcatcher — A creepy recounting of a real life sport drama — 8*/10

• Story: You'll definitively be weirded out. There's a lot of uncomfortable situations, people that are just a bit off and events that you can't believe really happened. Everything feels slightly askewed, like looking through an imperfect glass pane. That being said, it is psychologically intense, it is hypnotic, and you just know something bad is going to go down at some point.
• Style: It is just as boring as real life can be, but there's a surreal quality to these real life events that makes it difficult to just lump it with other biographical or historical piece.
• Pacing: Slow, drawn out. Makes for an incredible mood, a bit creepy, almost suffocating.
• Ending: Surprising. Not shocking, but really close to it.
• Dialogs: Off putting would be the best way to describe them. 
• Characters: You can really feel the depth and the realism.
• Acting: Superb.
• Known actors: Steve Carell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo.
• Visuals: Large and impressive or dirty and scrawny.
• Special Effects: Carell's face prosthetic feels unreal, but then again, I think it adds a lot to his character, it seems like a perfect match.
• Score: Creepy in a subtle way.

Criminal — A novel idea for the old spy action type flick with acceptable results — 6*/10

• Story: Interesting ideas on the whole spy saving the world theme. Good action scenes. Interesting developments and setbacks.
• Style: Good guy versus bad guys.
• Pacing: Rapid with a few pause. Well done.
• Ending: Weak. Should have stopped just before the jeep going to the beach.
• Characters: Nice blend for the main character which is the strongest selling point for this flick. The rest are simple with most being crude archetypes.
• Acting: Good considering the style. To the exception of the main character, they didn't have any room for great acting.
• Known actors: Kevin Costner, Gal Gadot, Ryan Reynolds, Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones.
• Visuals: Solid.

Un joyeux mélange de vie et de relations qui nous amène à rire et à réfléchir. Tout arrive un peu n'importe comment, arrangé par la main bienveillante du scénariste. Les gens sont beaux, la vie est simple, mais tumultueuse. On se laisse porter, on est transporté, on est captivé. Certains plans au début sont louches, un vers la fin aussi, mais on s'en fout. Un film que tout un chacun devrait voir.

He Never Died — It's not slick, but this violent modern fantasy is fantastic — 9*/10

• Story: Great ideas. Absolutely and completely absorbing. The intrigue makes the whole movie. You keep asking yourself: "Who is he?" You're kept in murky waters as confusing events unfold. However, when you get the answer, what happens? Is it over? No, but then You just start wondering: "Where is this going? Why is this even happening?" Basically, you never stop wanting to know more. Simple and quick action scenes with a good punch. Plus, you even get to laugh some.
• Setting: Average city, below average citizens and criminals. Very few people all in all.
• Style: Dark, violent, gory, everyday modern fantasy. Quite surprising.
• Pacing: Slow to start, but it quickly grows sustained.
• Ending: An end that's not really an end is close to absolute genius not only because it's so unusual, but also because it's close to reality without being boring. I can only applaud.
• Dialogs: Superb. In a dark way, even funny.
• Characters: They don't have complex personalities, but they mingle, act and interact to form an almost perfect symphony. An incredible melange of sarcasm, incredulity and realistic reactions that form the core of this film. I loved the main character and the waitress, they made me laugh out loud.
• Acting: Right on the note. They keep the whole tone of the movie exactly where it's supposed to be. Can't ask for more.
• Known actors: Henry Rollins.
• Visuals: Dark. Gritty. Perfect.
• Special Effects: Nicely done, close to seamless. Nothing to be wowed about, though.
• Score: Great.

The Oranges — A tangle of lives with a big mess and some fun — 7*/10

• Story: The lives and the storylines of two family get incredibly entangled. Very funny with just a bit of pretty tame drama.
• Setting: As usual, too posh compared to the average viewer.
• Ending: Too neat and pretty bland, but acceptable. It could have been worst. It could also have been easily better if it had followed a realistic approach.
• Dialogs: Funny.
• Characters: Very interesting.
• Acting: Better than good overall. Simple roles, though.
• Known actors: Catherine Keener, Allison Janney, Oliver Platt, Hugh Laurie, Alia Shawkat and Leighton Meester.

Demolition — A quiet but powerful look at a man looking for an answer — 8*/10

• Story: A great exploration of the mind. It is specific to the main character, thus giving us a new perspective on the old grief story. The drama is there, but it's quiet, and you'll even smile from time to time. It doesn't want to be an emotionally gut wrenching piece.
• Setting: Rich in details, if too posh for the average viewer.
• Style: Flashes of ideas flow to the screen from time to time, making us feel like we're thinking like he does. Very strong editing. We're part of his thought process and confusion. We're almost just as lost as he is.
• Pacing: Very even paced. Not slow, but not fast either.
• Ending: Somewhat predictable, but very nice.
• Dialogs: Great.
• Characters: Well developed.
• Acting: Superb.
• Known actors: Jake Gyllenhaal, Naomi Watts and Chris Cooper.

• Story: A very tight look at a few boy teens. Yes, they are up to no good most of the time, but their rebellion is realistic. You can feel the confusion, frustration and simmering anger behind their nonchalant exterior and petty hurts. No laughters or jokes anywhere. It's very serious, but the drama is not the explosive kind, it's that real one, the everyday type, that happens to anyone.
• Setting: Average people in an average place, not poor, not rich.
• Style: It's a raw, yet intimate and because of that intimacy, it feels almost neutral and soft at times. Judgement is all in the eye of the beholders.
• Pacing: Quite quick, very few pauses. The action is mostly psychological.
• Ending: Solid.
• Dialogs: Extremely realistic.
• Characters: Incredibly well built. The closer you are to a character, the deeper the personality will be, yet the others don't feel empty or archetypical, just less well known.
• Acting: Perfect.
• Camera Work: Reels you in tight, off the shoulder, lived in style. Just right.

Moonwalkers — Totally hilarious crazy off the wall comedy — 8*/10

• Story: Right from the start a viewer should take its cue the band's lead signer. The movie will be like that all the way through. Lots of nice twists and change of roles. It's crazy, off the wall and totally hilarious. It doesn't pull any punches. I laughed out loud many times and I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
• Style: It's a brilliant mix of a silly impossible comedy based on a conspiracy theory with an incredibly realistic sense of events, reactions and end results.
• Pacing: It stops and go multiple times. Every breather gives just enough of a pause for the audience to catch their breath but no more. Solid.
• Ending: Excellent, if slightly predictable which is easily forgivable given the quality of the rest.
• Dialogs: Amazing. Again, realistic in that crazy sense.
• Characters: By themselves, they make the movie. The rest makes it just stunning.
• Acting: Perfect.
• Known actors: Ron Perlman, Rupert Grint and Robert Sheehan.
• Music: Great.

I did lower its overall value by a star because a number of people won't like it. It's just too incredibly out there for most viewer.
