• Story: Even though it possesses all the trappings of a standard high school teen comedy, it does strive to bring a few new twists to the genre. It's nothing grossly surprising, but it shows the writers wanted to make it interesting. Nice ending. It's rosy, but well made.

Kingsman: The Secret Service — The best spy action movie I've seen in a long time — 9*/10

• Story: It's a spy film and it comes with a bunch concepts we are familiar with, however, it does take a few unexpected turns and has a number of nice details that are usually absent from this kind of flick. The good thing is that it doesn't take itself seriously. Excellent choice when it comes to the global threat.
• Characters: Loved the super-vilain and his motivation. The rest are interesting if not novel. However, I thought that the evil female sidekick was a bit much.
• Dialogs: Good, and at a number of time, even self-reflective on the genre.
• Scenario: Tight and action gripped, loved it.
• Actors: Love Colin Firth, perfect as the ultimate gentleman. Samuel L. Jackson showed us once again the range he's capable of. I thought Mark Hamill did a great work in his small role. The other notable cast members are Michael Caine and Mark Strong.
• Photography: Very nice. The camera works are incredibly good in the fight scenes.

Jupiter Ascending — Stupendous! An amazing sci-fi for all — 10*/10

• Story: Great intrigue that grab your attention, you just wish it would keep on going, but at some point everything has been revealed and it's just a question of getting things done. It would have been better with a continuing intrigue. Still, it's some incredible entertainment even if you don't understand everything at first.
• Characters: Not complicated, but well built with a bit of depth. Strong female lead.
• Dialogs: Entertaining, sometimes funny.
• Scenario: Totally engrossing. It's a basic Cinderella story in a sci-fi setting with a ton of action and some political intrigue.
• Actors: Good work on the part of everyone. The notable cast members are  Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum and Sean Bean.
• Photography: Breathtaking.
• Sound: Nice music with a solid score and booming effects. Very loud!
• Special effects: Amazing! Here, the 3D, even though I still think it's superfluous to a certain extent, is very well done.

Another excellent movie by the The Wachowskis. This flick is totally underrated. I think it's because it's pretty complexe for most people, but this very complexity is what makes it so delectable. I just watched it for the second time and it's even better. I had to give it maximum rating.

Fifty Shades of Grey — Not as bad as most critic would have you believe — 6*/10

• Story: Rather simple. Intro somewhat brusque. Interesting development. Perfect ending.
• Characters: Acceptable, but we don't get to know them a lot, it's too short for that.
• Dialogs: Piteous. They work for a book, but not a movie.
• Scenario: Nicely paced, but there's not enough material to get anywhere.
• Actors: Acceptable work. The only notable cast member is Marcia Gay Harden.
• Photography: Very pleasing to the eye. Rich, and understandably so.
• Sound: Great music, well scored soundtrack, but the ambient sounds were somewhat weirdly chosen, like some forest bird noise right downtown?

• Who is it for? Those looking for spicy erotic without having too much expectation. Think Harlequin in BDSM format.

There's been a competition on who's review would trash this little flick the most. I'm not sure why, but it's not that bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not a masterpiece, far from it, but it's nice entertainment. Contrary to complaints I heard, you might not see him as naked as her or as often, but you do see him well. Also, there might have been some better choice for Grey in Hollywood, but he's not bad looking.

Moonrise Kingdom — A starkly sweet story for those in need of nourishment — 10*/10

• Story: Told in an incredibly unique and stark caricatural style that feels almost surreal, it is sweet and interesting, if plain at first. That being said, by the end, it is completely engrossing, culminating with an epic scene.
• Characters: Captivating traits, each role nicely intertwined with the others. 
• Dialogs: Simple, short, to the point and perfect.
• Scenario: Excellent pacing. Takes you slowly from peaceable to, nearly, action packed.
• Actors: Great work on the part of everyone. A surprisingly star studded cast. Its notable members are Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, Bob Balaban, and Harvey Keitel.
• Photography: Pretty with invigorating camera work.
• Special effects: Well done.

Seventh Son — Only for your action fantasy fix — 6*/10

• Story: Predictable if somewhat interesting. Great intro. Lots of weird storytelling choices.

• Dialogs: Mostly constructed sentences that do not convey emotions, but only ideas.
• Scenario: Good pacing, excellent action.
• Actors: Acceptable job for most. Great work on the part of Julianne Moore. Usually, I like Jeff Bridges a lot, but not this time, maybe it's just the directions he got that gave such caricatural result.

The Wedding Guest — Asinine start but very entertaining second half — 7*/10

• Story: Simple. During the second half, it gets surprising, at times touching, very different, interesting, and even entertaining.

• Dialogs: Nice, but tends to be predictable when the family of the leading man is concerned.
• Scenario: Starts on the wrong foot by doing what everybody does, but finally gets into a different beat half way through.
• Actors: Mostly nice work on the part of the cast. Its notable members are Evan Rachel Wood and J.K. Simmons.

Ocean's Thirteen — Better than the second but not as good as the first — 7*/10

• Story: This third chapter concludes the trilogy pretty well. It was better than the second one (review here) with a smoother and more interesting story, but not as good as the first one (review here) simply because they tried to make it slicker and more complicated and failed by mostly confusing the audience.
• Characters: Same as before.
• Dialogs: Funny. However, they tried to make them feel more like inside chatter and just made it garbled most of the time. 
• Scenario: A number of nice surprises making the whole thing very interesting, even if nothing was really out of the ordinary.
• Actors: Solid work overall. The notable cast members are George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Al Pacino, Don Cheadle, Bernie Mac, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, and Carl Reiner.

• Scenario: Good pacing, keeps your attention. I would have removed the last kiss, but beyond that the end was well done.

Frequencies — A sci-fi with a solid intrigue and an endearing romance — 9*/10

• Story: Brilliant! The novelty of it is incredible and the plot keeps on twisting. However, I would cut the last five seconds, not necessary.
• Characters: Very interesting and well built.
• Dialogs: Intelligent and solid.
• Scenario: The different perspective told one after the other furthers the intrigue and creates quite a firework. The equation debate under government watch is a poorly done scene. However, it's the only one.
• Actors: Very good work for the most part.

• Who is it for? Those looking for a totally different type of sci-fi or alternate reality with a bit of romance or a nice intrigue. The budget is adequate, but you can't expect high level deployments.

The Big Lebowski — The story and the characters are priceless — 7*/10

• Story: Funny. The intrigue changes direction so often that it keeps you riveted.
• Characters: They are as much an attraction as the intrigue.
• Dialogs: Very funny.
• Scenario: Great timing with a nice mix of scenes.
• Actors: Jeff Bridges's performance is forever a classic for this stereotyped character. John Goodman is the hot spices to his mellow friend. I adore Julianne Moore, but this is a small role for her. Same goes for Steve Buscemi, Philip Seymour Hoffman and John Turturro. It was before they were well known. It's also true of Tara Reid, although to a lesser extent.

• Who is it for? Stoners and mellow dudes looking for an idol, or those looking for a simple movie where the intrigue keeps on giving.

Sometimes, you hear so much about a picture, revered in some circles as a classic, that you have to see it. This is one of them. I'm glad I saw it.

I gave it a lower rating than I would have liked, because the production was a little shitty compared to the quality of the story, the characters, or the performances of Bridges and Goodman.

Black or White — A family story with smile and a tear and a half — 8*/10

• Story: Touching, interesting, entertaining with a laugh here and there.
• Characters: Very real, with lots of shades of grey. Nobody's perfect.

• Story: Interesting, easily captivates our attention. Touching. There's no super dramatisation of sad events. The end, though it seeks to tie a loose end, does it in a nice way, completely integrated within the character basis.

The Interview — A disappointment half the way through — 5*/10

• Story: It starts as the crazy shit Seth Rogen is getting known for and it feels good. However, it gets lost half way through as if they ran out of interesting material. The rest feels like unsatisfying filling. I usually love what Rogen does, but this is very poor.
• Characters: The type you'd expect.
• Dialogs: Funny, but then it gets repetitive and uninventive once they're in North Korea.
• Scenario: Like I said, it unravels at the half mark.
• Actors: Seth Rogen is funny as usual, but James Franco out of it, either that or he was given bad directions.

• Characters: Shallow. Difficult to accept their motivations as valid ones. Their reactions seemed unrealistic to the point where suspension of disbelief was impossible.

• Scenario: Nice pacing, but the intrigue was rather flat, you just couldn't feel it.
• Actors: Jim Carrey was very good. At the time, it was a nice departure from his earlier roles. The rest of the cast was acceptable, but no more.

• Story: At first, you don't know where it's going, interesting, but not much more, and then things happen. You get captivated. Nice twists and turns in unusual manners.

• Scenario: The intro really settles us comfortably within that world, so when the action hits, you get completely absorbed.

Cloud Atlas — A beautiful exposé for those with enough patience — 8*/10

• Story: Needs a little bit of getting used to because of the way its told and all the disparate timeframes; it can get a bit confusing. Overall, it's very touching and pleasing. I loved the future ones, pre and post apocalyptic, but I'm biased toward those.
• Characters: The plethora of them is definitively a big bite to chew on, but after an hour, you get a solid enough grasp to enjoy their different depth.
• Dialogs: Interesting, slightly poetic, and pleasant. They will often tickle your brains, the contained philosophy.
• Scenario: You need to be able to enjoy slow developing scenarios to fully appreciate. Nonetheless, it is a mix of action, passion and contemplation that is totally satisfying.
• Actors: Quite an ensemble! Great work, although it was a bit difficult to process them in their different roles, especially when they switched between nice characters and reprehensible ones. Here's the list of notable ones: Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Jim Sturgess, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, Doona Bae, Ben Whishaw, Keith David, James D'Arcy, and Jim Broadbent.

American Sniper — Another extraordinary point of view of what war feels like — 9*/10

• Story: Gripping, touching, incredible, and most of all: realistic. No extreme, just what is. Thumbs up to the fact that it's not smeared with American propaganda, you can feel a certain neutrality towards it.
• Characters: A psychological depth that you can really feel.
• Dialogs: Perfect.
• Scenario: Great mix of pacing that really fills your mind.
• Actors: Solid work from everyone. Superb job by Bradley Cooper who seems to have put on a lot of muscle since his last gig.
• Photography: Captivating.
• Special effects: Just right.

• Who is it for? Those who try to understand war through movies like me, war junkies, Cooper fans, and those looking for a psychological fuck up.

I'm not sure why I'm not giving it a perfect score. Maybe it's just in comparison to other excellent war movies. Most flick based on actual facts have a tendency to be a bit incomplete, because you cannot rearrange events to fit that perfect scenario. That's probably why. Anyway, my hat to Clint Eastwood.

Bruce Almighty — Funny, even hilarious, if a little simple — 7*/10

• Story: The basic idea is very interesting. The finished product is funny, often hilarious. However, it's a bit easy and at times predictable. Je jokes are mostly juvenile.
• Characters: Easy to relate to, funny, if a bit stereotypical.
• Dialogs: Well done, most of the time very funny.
• Scenario: Good pacing, with a few obvious plot hooks.
• Actors: Jim Carrey is his funny self, just a hair from over-exaggeration; he was just starting to rein himself in. Jennifer Aniston is good as is Morgan Freeman, both of whom got simple roles for their talent. Mention for hilarity: Steve Carell.

• Special effects: Good, but getting old. Green screen technology wasn't as effective then as it is now.

• Scenario: Not too much singing and placed well enough that even somebody like me who doesn't like musical could appreciate the flick.
• Actors: Quvenzhané Wallis is solid in the main role. Cameron Diazi is interesting as the mean foster mom. Jamie Foxx gives us a good performance, from the heart. Loved Rose Byrne.
